Helping out in the back yard

This weekend it got up to the 80's and there was not a cloud in the sky. All the fruit trees were in bloom and the hum of lawnmowers made it feel like a summer day.


We spent the day working in the yard, planting as well as removing invasive plants that have taken root in our back yard. The stubborn invaders: blackberries, English ivy, arum, and Spanish bluebells.

Cora, armed with a small shovel and pail, enjoyed helping Bill move dirt and worms into our new beds.



Bill mixed soil in our new planter box to make a home for a blueberry bush. Cora helped by moving small piles of mulch from the wheel barrow. She also had fun with the watering can and managed to water most of the walkway.

CHICKENS!!

Our neighbor just finished their chicken coop and five little chickens have moved out of the house and into their new home. Cora first met them when they could fit in the palm of your hand and she now enjoys feeding them dandelion greens.




And what would a sunny weekend be without a barbecue? Our neighbors hosted a 'tiny' barbecue, complete with tiny burgers on tiny buns, tiny pickles, deviled quail eggs and anything else you could find in a small package. There were little ones in attendance from five weeks old to 16 months.

Plus, our neighbors invited a woman, Addie, who went to elementary school and high school with Bill many years ago and over 3000 miles away! She now lives four miles away. I guess you might say --- tiny world.
