We started teaching Cora a few signs when she was six months old. Then, she would mostly sign 'milk' and at about seven months she would sometimes sign 'eat' and 'more.' A little over a month ago she slowly began to add more words, like 'ball' and 'all done'. Within the past few weeks, it's as if she really was paying attention when we would sign with her. She now has over a dozen signs (some of which she does while she speaks the word). Cora's signs make it easier for us to understand if she is saying 'dog' or 'Dad'.
It sometimes seems as though she is pointing to things and waiting for me to label them. In the video below she does this when she points to the Christmas tree light and seems to say "that?"
Cora also enjoys calling my attention to things now, both with words and signs. Today, we were at the supermarket and Cora signed 'hat'. Just then, a woman with a floppy hat walked by me. Cora got the biggest grin on her face and clapped. Boy is she proud of herself! Pretty soon her babbling speeches will become talking, but it is fun to know what's on her mind now.
